Hi, I'm Ayoub

I build tools around problems I run into myself, with a focus on user flow and how an application works day to day. I like making free and open source software that other people can use, adapt, and improve.

I'm actively looking for the right opportunity to work with a team. My strongest contribution is working through an idea, trying it in practice, and iterating on the experience until it works well for the person using it.

What I'm working on

A desktop app for reducing microphone bleed in multitrack podcast recordings. Unwanted pickup from other speakers' microphones has bothered me for years in my media work. This is my attempt to make dealing with it easier.

CleanSlate processes audio locally and lets you listen to and adjust the result. I use it myself and guide its development through listening checks and feedback on the interface. It's currently an experimental alpha.

I use this every day on my phone. Built on FUTO Voice Input, my fork adds more local speech recognition model choices and a less intrusive recording popup.

I wanted voice input to take up less space while I was using other apps. I also wanted to try models that worked better on my phone. Daily use helps me find the awkward interactions and decide what to improve next.

How I build

I use AI coding tools, including GPT and Codex, with skills from Matt Pocock as part of my workflow. AI writes much of the code; I work through the requirements, user experience, testing through use, and feedback that guides each iteration.

I care about keeping useful tools available for others to build on. I also believe developers should be paid, and I hope people support the projects they find valuable.

Outside software

I run Alpha Bravo Media and work in marketing and videography. I make YouTube videos, enjoy reading and teaching, and want to start a podcast. On TikTok, I share educational content about Islam.

I'm also interested in 80,000 Hours and effective altruism, and I'm currently taking part in an effective altruism cohort.
