feat(webview): view-local buffer reads and setValue persistence (N3, split 3/5 of #1546) - #2235
Split unit N3 of #1546 (view-local buffer reads + setValue persistence)
Third unit of the split plan in the tracking issue (fork issue 41), on top of N2 (#2227).
Scope
setValue writes the shared value and mirrors it into the in-memory viewLocalState buffer, with _restoreSharedValuesAfterFailedViewWrite rolling the shared write back when per-view persistence fails.
getValues merges the buffer over the shared values so consumers read the view's own state.
Focused tests for setValue buffer/rules and failed-write rollback.
Split unit N2 of Zoo-Code-Org#1546: viewStates read/write queue, claim rekey, prune, clear, load/save and export/import sanitization on top of N1 identity. Buffer/mutation/history content remains for N3.
N2 spec now includes the N1 identity tests plus the persistence/load/prune/rekey/export-import coverage; the setValues buffer test moves to the buffer unit.
Modes and provider-profile selections are saved and restored independently for each view. Sensitive provider settings are excluded from saved view state.
Bug Fixes
Failed settings writes no longer overwrite newer selections or restore settings cleared by a reset.
Deleting a provider profile that doesn’t exist now reports a distinct not-found error.
Settings
View-specific state is omitted when importing or exporting settings.
In CLI, history restoration restores modes without activating provider profiles.
The change adds durable per-view mode and provider-profile selections, claim-based view registration, and view-local overlays. It excludes per-view state from settings import and export, adds guarded handling for write and reset races, and introduces a distinct error for deleting a missing provider profile.
Changes: Per-view state
Layer / File(s)
Summary
View-state contracts and settings boundaries packages/types/src/global-settings.ts, packages/types/src/vscode-extension-host.ts, packages/types/src/__tests__/*, src/core/config/importExport.ts, src/core/config/__tests__/importExport.spec.ts
The global settings schema validates per-view records, and extension-host messages carry view IDs and claims. Settings import and export omit viewStates.
Write generations and reset ordering src/core/config/ContextProxy.ts, src/core/config/__tests__/ContextProxy.spec.ts
ContextProxy tracks global-state write generations and pending secret writes. Reset waits for pending secret writes and clears write ownership. Tests cover write and reset races and export filtering.
View registration and durable state src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts, src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts
ClineProvider assigns view IDs, validates claims, persists and prunes records, and loads eligible mode and profile selections. Tests cover registration, ownership, persistence, pruning, and loading.
View overlays and profile activation src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts, src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts
getValues() overlays buffered values on shared settings. Mutations persist before updating the buffer. Profile activation and failed persistence use ownership checks for conditional rollback and refresh affected views.
Deleting a missing profile throws ProviderSettingsNotFoundError, which is rethrown without the generic error wrapper. Tests distinguish it from storage errors containing “not found.”
Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code#2227: Provides the durable viewStates store, claim handling, pruning, and serialized persistence used by this change.
Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code#2226: Defines the view ID and claim contract used when registering, loading, and persisting view state.
Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code#2311: Changes ContextProxy handling for overlapping writes and reset races used by conditional shared-value rollback.
Merge Risk: Moderate · up to f95d1
The change adds per-view mode and profile selection. Several rollback and buffer-sync edge cases in rare multi-view or failure scenarios remain open. A failed reset can also let a late deletion erase a secret saved right after it. The required mutation-testing CI check is currently failing and needs a split or a maintainer exemption before merge.

Explanation
The title names the core change: setValue writes the shared value and mirrors it into the view-local buffer, and getValues merges that buffer over shared values. The diff adds viewStates types and schema, ContextProxy generation tracking, and ClineProvider view-state persistence and overlays. The title does not mention the wider scope (claims, reset generations, import/export exclusion, and ProviderSettingsNotFoundError), which is acceptable for a title. It is a single sentence, but it is dense and uses internal jargon (N3, split 3/5 of #1546) that a teammate scanning history may not follow.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description covers the scope, the explicit exclusions, the stack and merge order, and test evidence. It does not link a GitHub issue using the required 'Closes: #' format; it refers to a tracking issue (fork issue 41) and #1546 instead. The template sections for Test Procedure, Pre-Submission Checklist, Visual Snapshots, Documentation Updates, and Get in Touch are missing or not filled in. The description also does not state a reviewer test procedure beyond the spec run and tsc. It is mostly complete in substance, but several required template items are absent.
Resolution
Add a 'Closes:' line that links an approved GitHub issue, using the template format. Fill in the 'Test Procedure' section with reviewer steps. Complete the Pre-Submission Checklist and the Documentation Updates section. Add a Discord username under 'Get in Touch' if the template requires it.
Full details: Security Boundaries
Explanation
The prior secret leak remains in the changed view overlay path. loadViewState() stores the complete profile returned by getProfile() in viewLocalState.apiConfiguration (src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:1034-1041). _viewLocalValuesOverlay() copies every PROVIDER_SETTINGS_KEYS field except keys recognized by isSecretStateKey() (src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:4520-4525). vertexJsonCredentials is a service-account credential in the Vertex schema (packages/types/src/providers/vertex.ts:830-836), is included in PROVIDER_SETTINGS_KEYS, and is absent from SECRET_STATE_KEYS (packages/types/src/global-settings.ts:361-398). A view that loads a Vertex profile can therefore expose vertexJsonCredentials through getValues(). API.getConfiguration() returns that view data after applying the same incomplete filter (src/extension/api.ts:626-629).
Resolution
Create an explicit safe projection for view-local overlays. Exclude vertexJsonCredentials, vertexKeyFile, openAiHeaders, and all other credential-bearing fields before storing or returning overlay values, or classify those fields in isSecretStateKey() and apply the filtering consistently. Add regression tests that load a Vertex profile with service-account JSON and verify that both ClineProvider.getValues() and API.getConfiguration() omit the credential.
Full details: Persistence Integrity
Explanation
The changed view-state persistence path still does not reach the webview consumer. setValue() now persists mode/profile selections and getValues() overlays viewLocalState (src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:4455-4470, 4489-4528), but getState() still reads contextProxy.getValues() and getProviderSettings() (4197-4207), while getStateToPostToWebview() calls getState() (3949). A reload or a second view can therefore receive the shared mode/profile instead of the persisted view-local selection. The launch producers still send only { type: "webviewDidLaunch" } (webview-ui/src/App.tsx:210, webview-ui/src/context/ExtensionStateContext.tsx:635, apps/cli/src/agent/extension-host.ts:453), and the handler posts state without calling setViewStateId() (src/core/webview/webviewMessageHandler.ts:596-601). This leaves the stable ID and claim path unreachable.
Resolution
Persist a stable viewStateId and host-minted claim in each webview. Include both fields in every webviewDidLaunch message. Handle viewStateClaim in the webview and echo the claim on the next launch. In the webviewDidLaunch handler, await provider.setViewStateId(viewStateId, viewStateClaim) before postStateToWebview(). Update getState() to use this.getValues() and construct apiConfiguration from the view-local provider overlay while retaining shared secret values.
Full details: Regression Evidence
Explanation
The standing concern is only partly resolved. The changed ClineProvider.setValue() path has new coverage, but no focused test covers its success-path shared write, durable viewStates entry, local precedence over a different shared value, and fallback after unset. Changed behavior (src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:4455-4491): setValue(key, value) writes the shared value, then mirrors mode and currentApiConfigName into viewLocalState through _saveViewLocalStateFromMutation. On failure it rolls back the shared write. getValues() overlays the local buffer on the shared values. Coverage found in src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts: - Lines 6530-6580: saveViewState tests for mode and currentApiConfigName. They check the buffer and viewStates, but they call saveViewState, not setValue. - Lines 6862-6904: two ClineProvider instances share one ContextProxy. setValue writes mode and currentApiConfigName, and getValues() returns the local values. This covers local precedence over a different shared value, but it does not assert the shared value, the viewStates entry, or fallback. - Lines 7439-7463: setValue(key, undefined) clears the buffer. It asserts only not.toHaveProperty. It does not assert that getValues() falls back to the shared value. - Lines 7483-7505: rollback when the viewStates write rejects. This is the negative path and it is covered. Gaps: - No test reads the shared store after a successful setValue("mode", …) or setValue("currentApiConfigName", …). Shared reads of these keys appear only at lines 6985, 7349, and 7502, all in other flows. A regression that dropped the shared write on success would not fail these tests. - No test asserts getValues() fallback to the shared value after setValue(key, undefined). The standing required resolution asks for one focused test with these assertions. That test does not exist in the current head. The 49 missing-title concern in the objectives was not confirmed: all three describe blocks still exist in the current file and the base. The PR's reported 246 passing tests could not be verified because the sandbox cannot run tests.
Resolution
Add one focused ClineProvider test in the view state persistence edge cases block for a successful defined setValue("mode", ...) and setValue("currentApiConfigName", ...): 1. Seed a different shared value with contextProxy.setValue(key, sharedValue). 2. Call provider.setValue(key, localValue). 3. Assert the shared value equals localValue, since setValue writes the shared store. 4. Assert viewStates[viewId][key] equals localValue (durable entry). 5. Assert viewLocalState[key] equals localValue. 6. Assert getValues()[key] equals localValue. 7. Call provider.setValue(key, undefined). 8. Assert viewLocalState lacks the key and getValues()[key] equals the shared value. Keep the existing rollback test at lines 7483-7505.
Full details: Lifecycle Resource Cleanup
Explanation
The prior lifecycle defect remains in changed view-state paths. savePersistedViewState queues a callback on the static persistedViewStateWriteQueue (ClineProvider.ts:678-755), but dispose() only sets _disposed at line 1453 and does not cancel or invalidate that queue. If a queued saveViewState() is released after disposal, the callback can call contextProxy.setValue("viewStates", ...), then _saveViewLocalStateFromMutation() updates viewLocalState after its await. The new loadViewState() path has the same issue: it awaits custom-mode or profile lookup at lines 1026 and 1038, then checks only viewStateId at line 1049. Disposal does not change that ID, so line 1083 can mutate viewLocalState after disposal. setViewStateId() can also continue after disposal and attempt claim handling. The existing _disposed check in postMessageToWebview() prevents message delivery, but it does not prevent the storage or buffer mutations.
Resolution
Add a provider-scoped disposal generation or cancellation token and advance it at the start of dispose(). Capture and validate it before queued callbacks run, after every awaited operation, before storage or local-state mutation, and before claim delivery. Apply the guard to registration, save, rebind, re-key, clear, and load paths. Add tests that block a queued write and a profile/custom-mode load, dispose the provider, release each operation, and verify no post-disposal storage mutation, buffer mutation, or claim delivery.

Protect live views from recency-only pruning of persisted view selections.
prunePersistedViewStates keeps the 50 entries with the newest updatedAt and does not check whether an entry belongs to an open view. An open view that has not changed its mode or profile recently can lose its entry once 50 other view ids write newer selections. On that view's next reload, its selection is not restored. The provider already enumerates live instances through ClineProvider.getAllInstances(), so live view ids are available at prune time. Exempt those ids from eviction, and make sure the cap does not drop below the live count.

Refresh the sibling views' buffers, or remove the comment that says they are refreshed.
The activation branch refreshes only this provider. The new comment at ClineProvider.ts:2616-2618 says other live views are refreshed, but no code refreshes them. A sibling pinned to the saved profile keeps the old apiConfiguration in its viewLocalState. getValues() returns that buffer, and ExtensionApi.getConfiguration() returns it. The webview state path does not use the buffer, so the stale value does not reach the webview through getState().
Suggested direction
Add a loop in the activation branch that calls _saveViewLocalStateFromMutation({ apiConfiguration: providerSettings }) on each other instance from ClineProvider.getAllInstances() whose pinnedProfileName === name. Then update the comment to match. This direction is not verified against the merge base, and I did not test it.

… with its settings
Three measured review findings on this head, landed together because they answer one
save/reset path.
ContextProxy.resetAllState cleared the caches and bumped a generation counter that nothing
ever read: stateWriteGenerations had five references in the repository (declaration at
src/core/config/ContextProxy.ts:79, increment at 420-421, reset bump at 729-730), no comparer
anywhere, and ClineProvider.ts never consulted a generation. The rejection handlers gate on
write ownership (stateWriteOwner / secretWriteOwner), and reset left that ownership in place,
so a write still in flight read the Memento back into the cache the reset had just cleared.
resetAllState now clears both owner maps; the field, its two write sites and its reset bump
are deleted. ContextProxy.ts 763 -> 761 lines.
The activation path wrote a profile's settings into this view's buffer while the buffered
profile name stayed behind: ClineProvider.setValue is a ContextProxy pass-through, and
pinnedProfileName reads viewLocalState.currentApiConfigName, so the next non-activating save
of that profile compared a name nothing had updated and skipped the refresh. The buffer write
now carries currentApiConfigName and apiConfiguration in one mutation.
refreshSiblingsAfterProfileSave is ported unchanged from the n4 head (877ea0a) and called
from both save branches. This head had no sibling refresh at all before - zero references to
refreshSiblings and the three getAllInstances uses were elsewhere - so this is a capability
arriving, not a behaviour changing. ClineProvider.ts 6039 -> 6078 lines.
Tests. ContextProxy.spec.ts: the case "should not restore a pre-reset value when a pending
write rejects after reset" now re-arms the mocked Memento so the read-back answers with the
pre-reset value; it fails against the old production (expected 'anthropic' to be undefined)
and passes now. Main's thirteen read-back / rejection / reset cases in that file were re-run
and are green individually, not by inference (file 66/66). ClineProvider.spec.ts: new case
"keeps the buffered profile name in step with the profile it activates", plus the two
sibling-overlay cases ported from the n4 head, one per save branch; on this head the sibling
is pinned through saveViewState because setValue does not touch the buffer.
Controls (production snapshotted and restored by content hash after each - ClineProvider.ts
8f05e39, ContextProxy.ts f5281bd): removing the non-activating branch sibling call
fails only the non-activating case (1 failed | 368 skipped); removing the activating-branch
call fails only the activated-profile case; reducing the buffer mutation to
{ apiConfiguration } fails only the name case (expected { ...2 } to match object { ...2 });
leaving write ownership in place at reset fails the reset case (expected 'anthropic' to be
undefined) while main's "should reinitialize caches after reset" still passes.
Gates: prettier --check clean; tsc --noEmit -p . clean; eslint --max-warnings=0 clean on all
four files; vitest ContextProxy.spec.ts 66 tests, core/webview + core/config 44 files / 1267
tests green. Scope 335 -> 354 extension-package executable lines (types unchanged at 8),
inside the 500 advisory.
…opped
This commit touches one file: src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts.
The two upstream/main merges on this branch (61189bb, d46d7b2) resolved that
file toward our side and dropped 72 declarations that main carries at e943530 -
the whole "webview heartbeat watchdog" suite (70 declarations, 1,912 lines) plus
two top-level .each tables (the diagnostics-broker router and the dev-server probe
fallback). An AST title inventory over all 932 spec files in this tree finds none
of the 72 anywhere else, and no distinctive token from any of their bodies appears
in another spec, so this is deleted coverage rather than a rewording. The four
sibling heads (Zoo-Code-Org#2226, Zoo-Code-Org#2227, Zoo-Code-Org#2236, Zoo-Code-Org#2237) each still carry all 72.
All 72 are re-adopted from main: every adopted body is byte-identical to main's
modulo repo prettier formatting, and no assertion is re-pointed to a different
seam. The suite needs harness plumbing this file had also lost, so the commit
restores exactly that and nothing more: the pWaitFor import, the ViewColumn,
getCommands and createWebviewPanel doubles, a showWarningMessage double that
resolves, and the show member on the sidebar and output-channel doubles. Net
effect: 1,996 added / 27 removed lines as git counts the diff in one file (the only
pre-existing line whose text changes is the showWarningMessage double; the other
"deletions" are identical blocks re-paired by the diff), zero executable lines
changed, and no eslint suppression count moved.
Controls: with mockWebviewView.show removed again the explicit-retry recovery case
livelocks and the worker dies at 122s, so that restored double member is
load-bearing rather than cosmetic. Moving WEBVIEW_WATCHDOG_TICK_MS off 60_000 fails
47 of the adopted cases, never registering the watchdog interval fails 57, and
short-circuiting retryWebviewRecovery fails 14. On the unmutated tree all 381 cases
in the file pass, including the 96 re-adopted heartbeat cases and the 6 re-adopted
table cases.

Closes: #N). If the approved issue is the fork tracking issue 41, state that
explicitly. Add a Test Procedure section with the commands reviewers should run
(for example, the ClineProvider.spec.ts run and tsc --noEmit) and any manual
steps. Add the Pre-Submission Checklist with each item checked or marked not
applicable. Add the Visual Snapshots, Videos, and Documentation Updates
sections, marking them not applicable where they do not apply. Update the Scope
section to cover the follow-up commits (profile activation mirroring, rollback
ownership checks, and the heartbeat watchdog test re-adoption). Describe the
design trade-offs and the reviewer checks in the Description section. Note the
open scope-check failure and the 49 missing test titles, and state the planned
fix or the maintainer decision needed.
- Regression Evidence:
Add a focused `ClineProvider` test for successful defined `setValue()` on `mode`
or `currentApiConfigName`. Assert the shared value, durable `viewStates` entry,
local buffer, and `getValues()` result. Seed different shared and local values
and assert local precedence. Clear the local fields with `setValue(key,
undefined)` and assert that `getValues()` falls back to the shared values. Keep
the existing rollback test.
- Security Boundaries:
Create an explicit safe projection for view-local overlays. Exclude
`vertexJsonCredentials`, `vertexKeyFile` where appropriate, `openAiHeaders`, and
every other credential-bearing field, or classify them in `isSecretStateKey()`
and apply the same filtering before storing or returning `apiConfiguration`. Add
a regression test that loads a Vertex profile with service-account JSON and
verifies both `ClineProvider.getValues()` and `API.getConfiguration()` omit it.
- Persistence Integrity:
Persist the stable view ID and host claim in the webview. Include `viewStateId`
and `viewStateClaim` in every `webviewDidLaunch` message. In
`webviewMessageHandler`, await `provider.setViewStateId(viewStateId,
viewStateClaim)` before `postStateToWebview()`. Update `getState()` to use
`this.getValues()` and build `apiConfiguration` from the view-local provider
overlay while preserving shared secret values.
- Lifecycle Resource Cleanup:
Add a provider-scoped disposal generation or cancellation token and invalidate
it at the start of `dispose()`. Capture and check it before queued callbacks
execute, after every awaited operation, before shared or local-state mutation,
and before claim delivery. Apply the guard to save, clear, rebind, re-key,
registration, and load paths. Add tests that block a queued write and a
custom-mode/profile load, dispose the provider, release each operation, and
assert no post-disposal storage mutation, buffer mutation, or claim delivery.

2858-2871: The listConfig() suspension still follows the rollback snapshots.
await this.providerSettingsManager.listConfig() still runs inside the Promise.allSettled array, after the snapshots and generations are captured. The earlier thread already reported this remaining gap.
2930-2947: The mode-binding restore still checks ownership outside the locked write.
The ownsSharedSelection() pre-check and the separate getModeConfigId/setModeConfig lock acquisitions leave the race that the earlier thread reported. That thread also records the author's deferral.
3098-3104: The mirror rollback still has the list-generation and listConfig() snapshot gaps.
The profile-list restore is still gated on the shared-name generation. The snapshot still precedes the awaited listConfig() call. The earlier review thread already reported both gaps.

Clear the buffers of every live view on reset, not only this view's buffer.
resetAllState() clears the shared store, including every view's viewStates entry. The static viewStatesResetGeneration bump also affects all views. This block clears only this.viewLocalState. Other live providers keep their buffered mode, currentApiConfigName, and apiConfiguration. Their getValues() results then show pre-reset selections that a reload drops. This is the defect the comment describes, but in the other views.

Measured, and parking it here as the answer to this row. Owner: n-series-threads. Head it was measured against: f3ca33b (#2227), with the merged head f2d4336 read as well.
One run, three counters, all frozen into one assertion object so the numbers cannot be paraphrased (counters incremented inside resetState by probe lines that were reverted immediately after the run; nothing of this is in any pushed tree):
entered: 1 // resetState() was called and executed its first statement
reached: 0 // the line 'for (const instance of ClineProvider.getAllInstances())' was never reached
loopVisits: 0 assignments: 0 // the clear never executed
trappedWrites: 0 // zero assignments to the viewLocalState container on either provider, across the saves and the reset
contentsChangedInPlace: true // the buffer's contents did change with zero container assignments
bufferResetting: {"mode":"architect"} bufferOther: {"mode":"architect"}
Which explanation this separates: entered true with reached false means the method returned between its entry and the loop, so placement is not moot - it is the live question. The statement between entry and the loop that can return is the confirmation gate: resetState compares showInformationMessage(...) against t("common:answers.yes") and returns on mismatch. The counters say it returned there. So on this head the reset-time sibling clear has never actually executed in the harness, and I cannot claim either that it works or that the mutation convention defeats it.
The part that is established independently of the harness gap: the container property is never assigned while its contents change (zero trapped writes, contents changed). That is in-place mutation through the buffer object, not replacement. It is why I state the fix shape as a mutation-convention question rather than a position question: a clear that assigns {} into viewLocalState is a different kind of write than the one the class uses to change that buffer, and even once the reset reaches it, an assignment-shaped clear can leave whoever holds the old object looking at a buffer that still has content. The fix has to either mutate the buffer the way its writer mutates it, or clear it where it is written.
Two artifacts recorded so nobody repeats them. (1) The confirm gate is the second time this row has been blocked by a fixture rather than by product: mocking showInformationMessage to resolve the literal "Yes" while the product compares against a translated string produces an early return that looks exactly like a failed fix. (2) In this junction worktree git diff is not evidence: after git checkout stash@{0} -- ClineProvider.ts the file on disk hashed to the stash blob (7f144872da, containing the loop) while git diff --numstat printed empty and HEAD's blob is 8f05e399aa without the loop. Blob hashes are the evidence there, and the earlier negative - emptying the live list changed nothing - was a comparison between two runs of a reset that never reached the loop. That negative is withdrawn.
Row stays open, deliberately: nothing landed, so there is no fix to resolve against. Next measurement, if this row is picked up again, is one assertion - mock the confirmation to resolve with the prompt's own text, and re-run the same three counters; if reached becomes 1 and assignments becomes 186 (the live-instance count at that point) while the buffers still hold mode:architect, then and only then is the mutation convention the thing to fix.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
@easonLiangWorldedtech Understood. This row remains open. Nothing landed, and the reported run did not reach the sibling-clear loop. It therefore does not validate or disprove that fix.
The zero container assignments establish in-place mutation during that run. They do not establish a requirement to preserve buffer identity. In the supplied ClineProvider.ts, loadViewState() replaces viewLocalState, and _viewLocalValuesOverlay() reads the current property on each call. A retained reference could show old contents after replacement without getValues() returning those contents.
When this row resumes, the next measurement should:
Return the offered confirmation action—the third argument to showInformationMessage—not the prompt message or literal "Yes".
Assert that resetAllState() and the sibling-clear loop execute.
Read each provider’s current buffer and call getValues() after reset. Keep those checks separate from any captured pre-reset buffer reference.
Compare loop visits with the measured live-instance count, rather than hard-coding 186.
That separates confirmation-fixture failure, stale test references, and actual post-reset state. The original sibling-buffer concern remains valid in the supplied code; the proposed clear remains unverified.
… claims
A reset deleted every secret key before a storeSecret that was still in flight had
committed, so the write landed afterwards and a pre-reset secret came back from storage
even though the cache was empty. resetAllState now waits for the pending settles first,
then ends write ownership, then deletes, so the cleared copy is the last write to land.
The claim is cleared after the settle on purpose: a write that settles while it still
owns its key adopts into the cache, which the very next lines clear, and its storage
write is then deleted too. A secret write issued after a reset that waited for a pending
write is adopted normally, because it is a post-reset intent that owns its key.
Measured before the change: at the instant resetAllState returned, storage still held the
pre-reset secret while getSecret() read undefined and the delete pass had already run 37
times - awaiting the settlement after the deletes settles correctly and changes nothing.
Both added cases were red against the previous head. Control: replacing the await with
'void inFlight' re-reddens the regression case; the production file was restored by
content hash. Addresses row 6z9EGf on Zoo-Code-Org#2227.

Real merge, not a fast-forward: merge base is main e943530, with 28 commits on this side and 18 on
theirs. Five shared paths had to be decided (ProviderSettingsManager.spec.ts, importExport.ts and
importExport.spec.ts are byte-identical across the two heads and git resolved them without a decision);
ClineProvider.spec.ts auto-merged and carries 378 declarations against the 375 floor this branch pins.
Resolutions, taken from the stage-2 (ours) and stage-3 (theirs) blobs only. This chain's stage-1
recursive base is itself polluted with conflict markers, so it was never consulted as a base.
- packages/types/src/vscode-extension-host.ts: both sides added the same two union members
("diagnosticsRequest" and "viewStateClaim") in opposite order. Kept this side's order. No content
change; five viewStateClaim references and one diagnosticsRequest remain, one copy each.
- src/core/config/ContextProxy.ts: union. resetAllState now both advances every stateWriteGenerations
entry, which is what this side's rejected-write continuations gate on, and clears
stateWriteOwner/secretWriteOwner, which is what their side needs for the case where the mocked
Memento answers the post-reset read-back with the pre-reset value. Both guards are additive on the
same reset path; neither replaces the other.
- src/core/config/__tests__/ContextProxy.spec.ts: took their version of the pending-write test, which
adds the mocked Memento read-back that makes the guarantee observable, plus their new
does-not-restore-a-pre-reset-secret test. 79 -> 81 declarations, no test title lost from either side.
- src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts: nine regions. Their side's activation group now owns the mirror,
and it writes { currentApiConfigName: name, apiConfiguration: providerSettings } into this view's
buffer at ClineProvider.ts:2889-2892. Their non-activating branch refreshes the pinned self overlay
and then the siblings, and refreshSiblingsAfterProfileSave is adopted whole (2879-2903): an
overlay-mirror loop over ClineProvider.getAllInstances() for live siblings pinned to the profile,
then the name/id strip and updateTaskApiHandlerIfNeeded(taskSettings, { forceRebuild: true }) for
instances whose current task follows the profile. This side kept its own post-activation self refresh
and the ordering comment it exists for - a failed activation group must not leave the overlay ahead
of the restored shared state - and kept savePersistedViewState returning whether storage landed,
because this side's rollback path consumes that boolean.
What the merge carries and what it does not: the activation-success mirror for the saving view now
names both keys; the two sibling loops mirror apiConfiguration only and nothing in them writes
currentApiConfigName, so sibling-level pin mirroring still exists on no head in this series.
Whether that answers the open reviewer row about the activation mirror is a question for the merged
head, not for this paragraph.
Two defects the merge introduced that only the compiler caught, both of the lost-chunk class:
- ClineProvider.ts held two identical `type PersistedViewStateValues = Pick<...>` aliases, one from
each side, which is TS2300 twice. Removed the undocumented copy and kept the documented one.
- The constructor lost its `this.viewId = ${renderContext}-${ClineProvider.nextViewId++}` and
`this.viewStateId = this.viewId` assignments: git matched them into a hunk whose incoming side was
empty, so the merged file declared both properties and assigned neither, which is TS2564 twice.
Restored from the incoming side's text. Line 941's TS18048 (Object possibly undefined) went away with
them, which is how I know they were the cause and not a symptom.
Gates: the compile job's thirteen commands in the job's own order, against exactly this tree.
format:check 0 (prettier --check ., "All matched files use Prettier code style!"), lint 0 (12 tasks),
check-types 0 (11 tasks / 13 packages), test:code-qa-ci 0, solheim-smoke:check-types 0,
test:agent-evals:unit 0 (48 tests), agent-evals:check-types 0, lifecycle:model-check 0,
webview-recovery:check-types + model-check 0, mcp:integration-check 0. The two solheim runtime steps
fail on this machine and for platform reasons only: test:solheim-smoke-ci fails its
record.test-helper.sh SIGTERM teardown cases and test:solheim-smoke:unit asserts the POSIX literal
'/tmp/isolated/.config' against buildChildEnvironment's win32 output
'\tmp\isolated\.config' (config.test.ts:54). All 17 files under scripts/solheim-smoke and the workflow
self-test are blob-identical to main here, the merge touched nothing under scripts/, and both failures
reproduce identically on the unrelated Zoo-Code-Org#1552 and Zoo-Code-Org#1557 heads, so CI on ubuntu-latest is not being asked
to accept something this merge broke.
Line endings were checked before reading any local format result: core.autocrlf=false, core.eol=lf, and
the merged and incoming blobs of ClineProvider.ts, ContextProxy.ts, ClineProvider.spec.ts and
webview-ui/tsconfig.json all contain zero CRLF pairs, so a local format red here would have been a real
defect rather than a working-copy artifact - and it is green.
eslint --prune-suppressions over all seven merged files: clean, and src/eslint-suppressions.json is
count-neutral (3301 before, 3301 after) so it was reverted rather than committed.
No .changeset files and no CHANGELOG change, per repository policy.
Review row PRRT_kwDOSK-bwM6z9wTV asks that an activating provider-profile save
mirror both the profile name and its settings into this view, and that a spec
case prove getValues() and the durable viewStates entry name the newly activated
profile. The merge of f3ca33b already carries that mirroring at
ClineProvider.ts:2893-2896; what was missing was the test, so production is
untouched in this commit.
The case primes a real pin - this view's buffer and its durable entry both name
profile A while A settings sit in the buffer - then calls
persistProviderProfile with activate=true and asserts the write shape and both
halves of the end state. A wrapper around the private mutation entry point
records what this view was asked to write, in order, so the case pins one
mutation carrying the name together with the settings rather than only the
final values.
Controls on this tree, each a single-line deletion in ClineProvider.ts and
reverted after the run:
- deleting currentApiConfigName from the activation mirror reddens this case
(2 failed of 385) together with the existing concurrent-viewStates case, so
the pin sits on the mirroring the row describes, not on the priming;
- deleting the post-activation self refresh reddens this case on its ordering
assertion (2 failed of 385);
- deleting the group's shared setValue of the name leaves this case green and
reddens five rollback-ownership cases instead: a different claim.
Gates on the committed tree: prettier --check, eslint --prune-suppressions
--max-warnings=0 on the spec (3301 -> 3301, no increase), check-types 11/11,
format:check, lint 12/12, and the core lane (194 files, 4257 passed | 9 skipped,
zero files with zero collected cases; lane report, not the compile job).
Declaration count in ClineProvider.spec.ts: 379, floor 375.

Snapshot the shared values after listConfig() resolves.
activateProviderProfileUnlocked captures sharedValuesBeforeActivation and the expected generations before await this.providerSettingsManager.listConfig(). That await runs inside the Promise.all group. A write to currentApiConfigName from another source during the await bumps the generation. This activation's own write then bumps it again, so the captured nameGeneration no longer matches. If the view mirror rejects, the compensation skips the shared-selection restore, and it skips the profile-list and provider-settings restores that use the same baseline. The shared selection keeps the failed profile while the view buffer keeps the previous one.
Read the profile list first. Then take the snapshot and generations immediately before the shared writes, so the baseline matches this activation's own writes.

Check list ownership before restoring listApiConfigMeta.
A sibling non-activating upsertProviderProfile updates listApiConfigMeta without updating currentApiConfigName. If that write overlaps a rejected activation mirror, the name-only check still passes. The following list restore can overwrite the sibling's newer profile metadata. Capture the expected list generation before the activation writes and check it immediately before restoring the list.

and assert local precedence. Clear the local fields with `setValue(key,
undefined)` and assert that `getValues()` falls back to the shared values. Keep
the existing rollback test.
- Security Boundaries:
Create an explicit safe projection for view-local overlays. Exclude
`vertexJsonCredentials`, `vertexKeyFile` where appropriate, `openAiHeaders`, and
every other credential-bearing field before storing or returning overlay values,
or classify those fields in `isSecretStateKey()` and apply the filtering
consistently. Add regression tests that load a Vertex profile with
service-account JSON and verify both `ClineProvider.getValues()` and
`API.getConfiguration()` omit the credential.
- Persistence Integrity:
Persist and echo the stable `viewStateId` and host claim in every
`webviewDidLaunch` message. In the `webviewDidLaunch` handler, await
`provider.setViewStateId(viewStateId, viewStateClaim)` before
`postStateToWebview()`. Update `getState()` to use `this.getValues()` and
construct `apiConfiguration` from the view-local provider overlay while
retaining shared secret values.
- Lifecycle Resource Cleanup:
Add a provider-scoped disposal generation or cancellation token and advance it
at the start of `dispose()`. Capture and validate it before queued callbacks
run, after every awaited operation, before storage or local-state mutation, and
before claim delivery. Apply the guard to registration, save, rebind, re-key,
clear, and load paths. Add tests that block a queued write and a
profile/custom-mode load, dispose the provider, release each operation, and
verify no post-disposal storage mutation, buffer mutation, or claim delivery.

For persisted settings, verify the complete schema/storage/runtime/webview round trip, shared default semantics, and focused true plus false/unset tests.
Require regression coverage at the lowest valid harness with behavior-focused assertions, including relevant negative, error, false/unset, and boundary cases.
3156-3167: The earlier review finding on this snapshot is still open.
The snapshot and the ownership generations are taken before await this.providerSettingsManager.listConfig() on line 3164. A sibling write during that await invalidates nameGeneration and apiProviderGeneration. This activation then writes with later generations. If the mirror rejects, the compensation at lines 3181-3211 skips the restore although this activation made the latest writes. The list restore is also gated on the currentApiConfigName generation, not on the listApiConfigMeta generation.
Await listConfig() first. Take the snapshots and generations immediately before the writes. Gate the list restore on its own generation, as persistProviderProfile does.
4592-4592: The earlier review finding is still open: clear the buffers of all live views.
resetAllState() clears the shared store, including every view's viewStates entry. The static viewStatesResetGeneration bump applies to all views. This line clears only this instance's viewLocalState. Other live providers keep their pre-reset mode, currentApiConfigName and apiConfiguration. Their getValues() results then show selections that a reload drops.
Clear the buffer for each instance from ClineProvider.getAllInstances().
…f letting them survive it
resetAllState waits for the secret writes that are in flight when it starts, clears both caches,
drops both write claims and then deletes the keys. A storeSecret that begins after that in-flight
snapshot is invisible to all of it: it puts the value into the secret cache on entry, the reset
clears that cache underneath it, and the write's durable commit lands after the delete pass. The
success path never touches the cache again, so the value stays out of the cache while it stays in
durable storage, and the next initialize - what a restarted provider does - reads it back out and
surfaces to the user a secret they had just reset away.
Secret writes are therefore refused while a reset is in progress, with a SettingsWriteError naming
the key, and the flag is cleared only after the reset has re-initialized so the whole window is
covered. Refusing was chosen over serializing the reset: a serialized reset lets the write apply
and then erases it, which discards silently a save the user just asked for, whereas a refusal
leaves durable storage empty, which is what a reset promises, and hands the caller an error on a
path that already reports which keys it could not store. Serialization was available and was
rejected for that reason rather than omitted.
Case: erases a secret whose write begins after the reset has snapshotted the pending writes. It
parks the reset inside its own delete pass, starts the write in that window and reads three things:
the durable double behind the secrets, this instance's cache, and the cache after a fresh
initialize - the third is what makes it a security finding rather than a cache artefact. Case alone
against f3ca33b: Test Files 1 failed | 9 passed (10), Tests 1 failed | 315 passed (316), with
'expected late-secret to be undefined' on the durable read. With the gate: 10 test files and 316
tests, 0 failed. Control, the gate condition disabled: 1 failed | 315 passed again, so the case
measures the gate.
Review row: database id 4478349061 (Major, Security & Privacy).
An activating save wrote the shared current-profile name through this.setValue, and that
helper mirrors this view's buffer inside the same call. When the view's own durable write
rejected, the mirror restored the shared name itself, and that restore advanced the
shared-selection generation this activation was tracked against. The rollback then read its
own undo as another view's write: the mode-binding and shared-selection restores were both
skipped, setModeConfig ran once, and the mode stayed bound to the profile whose activation
failed. The name write now goes straight to ContextProxy, so the per-view mirror is not
inside the call whose failure is being rolled back.
The same rollback restored only the buffered profile name, which left the failed profile's
settings pinned to the restored name: getValues() overlays the buffer over the shared store,
so the view served the previous name together with the new provider and model. The rollback
now captures the buffered settings next to the buffered name and restores both.
Both halves measured rather than argued, with a case in the rollback-ownership block each.
- "restores this activation's mode binding when this view's durable write rejects": at the
parent the expected generation 2 met an observed 3, ownsSharedSelection() was false, both
restores logged a skip, and setModeConfig ran once with ("code","next-id"), leaving the mode
bound to the failed profile. With the name write moved to ContextProxy the generation pair
is unchanged, no restore reports another view's ownership, and setModeConfig runs a second
time restoring ("code","prior-id").
- "restores this view's buffered settings when an activating save rolls back": at the parent
the buffer kept currentApiConfigName "prior-profile" with apiConfiguration apiProvider
"openrouter" and openRouterModelId "new-model", so getValues() paired A's name with B's
settings and the skip log named the settings restore. With the capture the buffer and
getValues() agree on the restored pair.
Controls on this tree: reverting the name-write half reddens the first case only (386 passed,
1 failed of 387); reverting the settings-restore half reddens the second only (386/1);
reverting both reddens both (385/2). With both edits the file runs 387 passed, 0 failed.

eslint --max-warnings=0 on both touched files is clean and src/eslint-suppressions.json stays
byte-identical to the parent blob (3301 suppressed counts, no increase). The core lane reports
194 files, 4259 passed | 9 skipped | 0 failed with no file collecting zero cases - a lane

Merge base is f3ca33b, which is the incoming commit's own parent and already an ancestor of this
head through f2d4336, so the merge is a normal two-parent merge rather than a fold and it needed
no conflict decision: git auto-merged both shared paths and merge-tree on the two heads reported
no conflicted files. The incoming commit is ContextProxy.ts +12 and ContextProxy.spec.ts +50 only,
which is disjoint from everything on this side since f2d4336 (ClineProvider.ts and its spec).
Checked rather than trusted, because an auto-merge can be clean and still wrong:
- ordering in resetAllState (merged 758-788): their resetting = true opens the method, ahead of my
in-flight snapshot (763-765), both cache clears (768-769), the generation-advance loop (772-774),
both owner clears (778-779), the delete pass (781-785) and initialize (787); their
resetting = false sits after the re-initialize. Nothing on this side of the settlement moved.
- their storeSecret refusal (466-473) sits above the cache write, so a refused write never claims
ownership, never bumps the write count and never dirties the cache.
- survivors: my 81 declarations in ContextProxy.spec.ts all survive (66 it/test plus 15 describe,
2 .each tables), the merged file holds 82 with their one new case present exactly once,
"erases a secret whose write begins after the reset has snapshotted the pending writes".
- inventory: 3147 paths on each head and 3147 in the merged index, nothing dropped from either side.
- both merged blobs are LF-only with a trailing newline.

src/eslint-suppressions.json is untouched. ContextProxy.spec.ts declares 82 against the 81 this

…selector
The rebuild that applies a saved profile's settings to a running task is keyed on the task's
own profile name rather than on the view's pin (ClineProvider.ts:2897-2902), and the case at this
file's :6365 that the review row pointed at covers the overlay refresh, not that selector. Two
cases now cover it: a sibling whose task follows the saved profile, whose handler rebuild is
asserted with the settings and with forceRebuild: true and exactly once, and a sibling whose task
follows another profile, whose rebuild is asserted not to happen at all. The rebuild itself is
stubbed so the case asserts the call and its options rather than the internals of a handler
build; the one assertion-free cast is there because updateTaskApiHandlerIfNeeded is private and
vi.spyOn needs the object and the key together, which the private-field alternative cannot give
it. The profile-store doubles are spies on the public methods (saveConfig, listConfig,
setModeConfig) rather than manager replacements, so this commit adds no suppression directive.
Controls, run rather than described. Change forceRebuild: true to false at the call site and the
matching case is the only failure in core/webview: Test Files 1 failed | 33 passed (34), Tests 1
failed | 955 passed (956), so the option is asserted rather than assumed. Comment the call line
out and the same case is the only failure again, so the rebuild call is what makes it pass rather
than the surrounding loop. The non-matching case stays green under both, which is its job. With
production restored: Test Files 34 passed (34), Tests 956 passed (956); tsc -p . --noEmit exit 0,
eslint --max-warnings=0 --no-warn-ignored on the file exit 0, prettier --check exit 0, and
src/eslint-suppressions.json untouched. Test-only, and __tests__ is one of the mutation gate's
excluded path segments (scripts/stryker-diff.mjs:85), so this adds nothing to the changed
executable-line bucket.
Review row: ClineProvider.spec.ts:6365 on this PR.
The existing case already proves the rolled-back id and the later retry. It did not say anything
about what the two stores hold in the interval, which is the half that a compensating-write
question turns on. Three assertions now pin it: the durable record still keys the entry under the
temporary id with its mode intact, the stable key was never created durably, and the payload
ContextProxy holds for viewStates is the same map the durable store holds - so a registration that
was rolled back cannot be visible through one store and invisible through the other.
Control for the new assertions, run rather than described: make the failing write partially
durable - apply the value to globalState, then reject - and exactly one test in core/webview
fails, at Test Files 1 failed | 33 passed (34), Tests 1 failed | 955 passed (956), and it is this
case, so the pins have teeth. The removal control on the behaviour itself: delete the rollback
line at ClineProvider.ts:973 and core/webview goes red at Test Files 1 failed | 33 passed (34),
Tests 13 failed | 943 passed (956), thirteen cases, which is the rollback being load-bearing
rather than this assertion being fussy. With production restored: 34 files, 956 tests, 0 failures;
tsc exit 0; eslint --max-warnings=0 exit 0; prettier --check exit 0; suppressions untouched.
Test-only, and excluded from the mutation bucket by scripts/stryker-diff.mjs:85.
Note for whoever reads this next: this PR has no compensating write on the re-key path at all
(rekeyPersistedViewStateEntry at ClineProvider.ts:813-857 issues one write and rolls nothing
back), so these pins hold the interval on the shape that exists here rather than claiming the
shape of Zoo-Code-Org#2226's fix, which is tracked separately on the board.

Failed pre-merge checks:
- Regression Evidence:
Add a focused `ClineProvider` test for successful defined `setValue("mode",
...)` or `setValue("currentApiConfigName", ...)`. Seed different shared and
local values, then assert the shared value, durable `viewStates` entry, local
buffer, and `getValues()` local precedence. Clear the field with `setValue(key,
undefined)` and assert `getValues()` falls back to the shared value. Keep the
existing rollback test.
- Security Boundaries:
Create an explicit safe projection for view-local overlays. Exclude
`vertexJsonCredentials`, `vertexKeyFile` where applicable, `openAiHeaders`, and
all other credential-bearing fields before storing or returning overlay values,
or classify those fields in `isSecretStateKey()` and apply the filtering
consistently. Add regression tests that load a Vertex profile with
service-account JSON and verify both `ClineProvider.getValues()` and
`API.getConfiguration()` omit the credential.
- Persistence Integrity:
Persist a stable `viewStateId` and the host-minted claim in each webview, and
include both fields in every `webviewDidLaunch` message. Handle the claim
message in the webview so the claim is echoed on the next launch. In the
`webviewDidLaunch` handler, await `provider.setViewStateId(viewStateId,
viewStateClaim)` before `postStateToWebview()`. Change `getState()` to use
`this.getValues()` and build `apiConfiguration` from the view-local provider
overlay while retaining shared secret values.

Merge base is 515cc02, the incoming head's own grandparent line: the two commits that arrive are
0a77cf8 (the sibling task-handler rebuild pair the review row asked for - rebuild asserted once with
the saved profile's settings and { forceRebuild: true }, asserted not to happen for a sibling on a
different profile) and ddda5ce (three pins on the registration-rollback case: the durable record
stays keyed under the temporary id with its mode intact, the stable key is never created durably, and
the payload ContextProxy holds for viewStates equals the durable map). Combined: one file,
src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts, 118 added / 0 deleted, test-only.
git auto-merged that file and merge-tree on the two heads reported no conflicted files; the merge base
being 515cc02 means nothing on this side of the file moved under them. Checked rather than trusted:
- every one of my 295 test titles still exists in the merged text; the two new titles appear exactly
once each; my two activation-ownership cases are each still present exactly once.
- declaration count in ClineProvider.spec.ts (it/test including .each, .skip and .only headers, plus
describe forms): 381 before, 383 after, +2 which is exactly the two new cases; 35 .each tables on
both sides; the file executes 389 cases, all passing, where it executed 387 before this merge.
- inventory 3147 paths on each head and 3147 in the merged index; the merged blob is LF-only with a
trailing newline; src/eslint-suppressions.json is untouched (1443 lines, 3301 suppressed counts).
- test-only content: __tests__ is in EXCLUDED_PATH_SEGMENTS at scripts/stryker-diff.mjs:85, so this
merge contributes no changed executable lines and the extension bucket should not move from 595.
Gates on this tree, in compile-job order: format:check clean; lint 12/12; check-types 11/11;

rejected) and mcp:integration-check (16 advertised-grant combinations) are clean. Core lane: 194

This merge carries n-series' final Zoo-Code-Org#2227 head for tonight. The resetAllState failure path and the
matcherless expect.soft removal are landing on this branch as their own commits afterwards, per lead's
routing, and are not part of this commit.
resetAllState() set `resetting` as its first statement and cleared it only on the success path, at the
line after `initialize()`. The delete pass is a single `Promise.all` over every global-state key and
every secret key, so one keychain `secrets.delete()` rejecting rejects the reset itself, and so does a
rejecting `initialize()`. There was no third path: with the flag left set, `storeSecret()` refuses every
later secret write with `SettingsWriteError` for the life of the instance, and `ClineProvider.resetState()`
awaits `resetAllState()` with no catch, so the provider reset aborts on the same error and the user cannot
save an API key until the extension host restarts. Nothing in the chain has a deadline, and the read-back
deadline (`withinReadBackDeadline`, defined at ContextProxy.ts:52 and used once, at the write-rejection
read-back) does not apply here.
The body is wrapped rather than the two rejecting sites being patched individually so that a future await
added inside the reset cannot reintroduce the leak; the guarantee being claimed is about the flag, not
about the two sites that happen to reject today. No statement inside the reset moved, and the rejection
still propagates unchanged - the case below asserts the original error rather than a wrapper, because a
caller has to be able to tell a failed erase from a refused write.
Test: `clears the reset guard when a secret delete rejects so the next save succeeds and reads back` - one
delete rejecting, then the next `storeSecret()` asserted to resolve **and** to read back through both the
cache and storage, because the defect is the store being unusable rather than an error not appearing.
Control, run rather than described: revert this commit's production change and `vitest run core/config`
reports `Test Files 1 failed | 9 passed (10)`, `Tests 1 failed | 316 passed (317)`, and the failure is that
case. With the change back: `Test Files 10 passed (10)`, `Tests 317 passed (317)`. `tsc -p . --noEmit` exit
0, `eslint --max-warnings=0 --no-warn-ignored` on both files exit 0, `prettier --check` exit 0 (and the
HEAD copies of both files pass the same invocation, so the formatting diff is mine),
src/eslint-suppressions.json untouched.
Mutation posture: this unit's bucket from the merge base is the extension package's 6 lines, and this
commit moves it to roughly 40 (34 added / 28 deleted, almost all re-indentation) - well inside the 500-line
cap the gate script enforces at scripts/stryker-diff.mjs:11. The spec half of the commit is excluded from
the bucket by the `__tests__` segment at scripts/stryker-diff.mjs:85.
Review rows answered: Zoo-Code-Org#2235 ContextProxy.ts:759 (tail 60BwCc) and the failure-path half of ContextProxy.ts:765
(tail 6z_5oh). The deadline option the second row raises is deliberately not taken here: a deadline whose
expiry skips the deletes and rejects changes what a reset promises to its caller, which is a different
contract than the one ClineProvider awaits today. It stays written up in the thread for a maintainer to choose.
…reset case
`expect.soft([...])` with an array argument and no matcher records nothing: a soft assertion is recorded
only when a matcher runs on it. The six lines at 184-189 awaited two doubles, read a delete call count,
built an array out of them and asserted none of it, so the case was asserting what it already asserts at
lines 194-195 and the block above it read like coverage without carrying any.
Control, run rather than described - this is the control a deletion of an assertion needs, since the
honest claim is that nothing changes: `vitest run core/config` reads `Test Files 10 passed (10)`,
`Tests 317 passed (317)` before the removal and `Test Files 10 passed (10)`, `Tests 317 passed (317)`
after it, twice each, while the file's own counts move from 175 assertion calls (`expect(` plus `expect.soft(`) to 174 and stay
flat at 66 `it()` declarations (a `expect(`-only count stays at 174 before and after, because the deleted call was `expect.soft(` and that pattern does not match it; the `expect.soft(` occurrences go 1 to 0). One assertion less, same outcome set, same case count. `prettier --check`
exit 0, `eslint --max-warnings=0 --no-warn-ignored` exit 0, `tsc -p . --noEmit` exit 0,
src/eslint-suppressions.json untouched. Test-only: `__tests__` is an excluded path segment at
scripts/stryker-diff.mjs:85, so this adds nothing to the mutation bucket.
The same dead call was copied onto every branch carrying these cases (vps2/n2-viewstates-durability at its
line 181, vps2/n3-buffer-core at 184, and the vps2/n4-values-reset copy). This removes it where the review
row lives, and the two forward merges carry it on. The n2 copy is left alone because that head is final for

Review comments at @src/core/config/ContextProxy.ts:
- Around line 784-793: In the reset operation, replace the early-rejecting
Promise.all for global-state and secret deletions with Promise.allSettled, then
rethrow the first rejection only after every deletion settles so the original
error is preserved. Remove the redundant this.resetting = false assignment
before the finally block, which should remain responsible for reopening writes.
Add a regression test that keeps a sibling deletion pending after another
rejects, verifies storeSecret remains blocked until settlement, and confirms
resetAllState reports the original rejection.
---
Failed pre-merge checks:
- Regression Evidence:
Add one focused `ClineProvider` test in the `view state persistence edge cases`
block for a successful defined `setValue("mode", ...)` and
`setValue("currentApiConfigName", ...)`: 1. Seed a different shared value with
`contextProxy.setValue(key, sharedValue)`. 2. Call `provider.setValue(key,
localValue)`. 3. Assert the shared value equals `localValue`, since `setValue`
writes the shared store. 4. Assert `viewStates[viewId][key]` equals `localValue`
(durable entry). 5. Assert `viewLocalState[key]` equals `localValue`. 6. Assert
`getValues()[key]` equals `localValue`. 7. Call `provider.setValue(key,
undefined)`. 8. Assert `viewLocalState` lacks the key and `getValues()[key]`
equals the shared value. Keep the existing rollback test at lines 7483-7505.
- Security Boundaries:
Create an explicit safe projection for view-local overlays. Exclude
`vertexJsonCredentials`, `vertexKeyFile`, `openAiHeaders`, and all other
credential-bearing fields before storing or returning overlay values, or
classify those fields in `isSecretStateKey()` and apply the filtering
consistently. Add regression tests that load a Vertex profile with
service-account JSON and verify that both `ClineProvider.getValues()` and
`API.getConfiguration()` omit the credential.
- Persistence Integrity:
Persist a stable `viewStateId` and host-minted claim in each webview. Include
both fields in every `webviewDidLaunch` message. Handle `viewStateClaim` in the
webview and echo the claim on the next launch. In the `webviewDidLaunch`
handler, await `provider.setViewStateId(viewStateId, viewStateClaim)` before
`postStateToWebview()`. Update `getState()` to use `this.getValues()` and
construct `apiConfiguration` from the view-local provider overlay while
retaining shared secret values.

Wait for every reset deletion to settle before the finally clears resetting.
Promise.all rejects when the first secrets.delete() rejects. The other globalState.update() and secrets.delete() calls can still be pending at that moment. The finally on Line 793 then sets resetting = false, so storeSecret() accepts new writes again.
Failure sequence:
A user saves a secret for a key whose reset delete is still pending.
The store resolves, and the cache shows the new value.
The pending reset delete lands afterwards and erases the stored value.
The cache and storage now disagree. The secret is lost on the next initialize() or extension reload, and nothing reports the loss.
This is the ordering limit raised in the Line 759 thread. Commit 48e9bcb39 does not close it.
Fix:
Replace Promise.all with Promise.allSettled.
Rethrow the first rejection only after all deletions settle. This keeps the original error, so the test assertion on "keychain locked" still holds.
Remove Line 791. The finally already clears resetting, so that line is redundant.

Regression test: reject the apiKey delete, and keep a sibling delete (for example openAiApiKey) pending. While that delete is pending, assert that storeSecret("openAiApiKey", ...) rejects with SettingsWriteError. Then settle the pending delete. Assert that resetAllState() rejects with "keychain locked". Finally, assert that a new storeSecret("openAiApiKey", ...) resolves and reads back from both the cache and storage.
