The babeltrace-timings suite

Use these scripts to visualize (patched) babeltrace's timings as measured with
LTTng-UST. You'll need Perl and GNUplot.

LTTng-UST is an open source software developed by EfficiOS Inc. See
http://lttng.org for details.

Here is how you can setup measurements environment:

In one terminal:

  export LTTNG_HOME=/tmp/lttng-home-spam
  lttng-sessiond -d
  lttng-relayd -d
  lttng create trace-spam --live
  lttng enable-event -u "spam:*"
  lttng start
  ./spam 100 300 # generate 100 events per second for 5 minutes

In another terminal:

  export LTTNG_HOME=/tmp/lttng-home-babeltrace
  lttng-sessiond -d
  lttng create trace-babeltrace
  lttng enable-event -u "babeltrace:*"
  lttng start
  /tmp/babeltrace-1.5-dev/bin/babeltrace --input-format=lttng-live net://localhost/host/YOURHOSTNAME/trace-spam > /dev/null
  # Press Ctrl-C after some time
  lttng stop
  lttng destroy
  mv /tmp/lttng-home-babeltrace/lttng-traces/trace-babeltrace* /tmp/mytest-1

  cd /tmp/mytest1
  /tmp/babeltrace-timings.pl trace-babeltrace*
  /tmp/babeltrace-timings.gp
  # check generated PNG files

It may also be useful to collect related TCP traffic. For example run this
command as root:

  tcpdump -nn -B 128000 -w lttng-live.pcap -i lo -s 65535 tcp port 5344
