Development Fund Proposal Submission

Proposal file:
/proposals/ginie.md

Summary

Ginie transforms plain English into fully compiled, deployed Daml Full Stack Apps on Cantonin under 90 seconds, with zero prior Daml knowledge required.

This is not a proposal for an idea. Ginie already works.

We recently did a private beta launch of Ginie

Acquired 1500 Canton Passionate Builders on platfrom
Grown the TG community to 1100+ folks across globe
Grown x to 2500 followers builders community

The full pipeline is live and verified in production:

  • LocalNet Canton sandbox deployed on Railway and over 1000+ Contracts deployed so far from the community Private Beta Testing
Every generated contract passes an automated 5-gate pre-deployment audit — missing signatories, unchecked controllers, unguarded choices, known anti-patterns, and SCU upgrade compatibility (Gate 5) — before any DAR upload. No other Canton tooling project builds this.

Funding

726,000 CC (~$110,000 USD) across 4 milestones over 6 months

Milestone CC USD Delivery
M1: Production MVP 118,800 CC ~$18,000 Week 4
M2: Full-Stack dApp Builder + MCP 182,820 CC ~$27,700 Week 12
M3: IDE Extensions + ML Data Collection 273,240 CC ~$41,400 Week 20
M4: Ginie-1 Full Training + Apache 2.0 Release 151,140 CC ~$22,900 Week 24
Total 726,000 CC ~$110,000 6 months

Checklist

  • Proposal file added under /proposals/
  • Milestones and funding amounts defined
  • Acceptance criteria included per milestone
  • SCU compatibility addressed — Gate 5 in M1 audit layer per Canton Foundation feedback
  • dpm build / Canton 3.4 throughout — no legacy daml-assistant references
  • Alignment with Canton priorities described

Notes for Reviewers

Champion: Canton Foundation

This grant accelerates a production-ready product — not an idea — directly benefiting the open-source Daml community and institutional builders by eliminating the Daml expertise barrier, reducing
developer onboarding cost from weeks to minutes, and providing a privacy-first SDK for teams who cannot route sensitive contract specifications through external APIs.

Ginie is not a SaaS product with a paywall. GinieNet runs as a public, free-to-use Canton sandbox. All generated contracts, the RAG corpus, the Canton Skills library, and Ginie-1 weights are Apache 2.0. BlockX AI does not charge for contract generation. The commercial sustainability model — if any — comes from enterprise self-hosting support, not from gating the open-source tool. This grant funds the public-good infrastructure, not a proprietary product

@waynecollier-da — tagging you specifically because this is an adoption story, not just a tooling proposal.

The core problem Ginie solves: Canton has ~500 Daml developers globally serving 600+ institutions. That ratio cannot scale through training alone. Ginie attacks it from the other direction — a Goldman Sachs PM, a compliance officer at Euroclear, or a university student describes a financial contract in plain English and receives a verified, audited, live Canton Contract ID in under 90 seconds. No Daml knowledge required. No DevNet credentials required.

The USP that no other Canton tooling project has: every contract passes a pre-deployment security audit before it touches the ledger. Missing signatories, unchecked controllers, unguarded choices, SCU upgrade compatibility — all caught and blocked before deployment. AI-generated code on a financial ledger without this gate is a liability. Ginie makes it safe by default.

GinieNet is live today at canton.ginie.xyz as a public Canton sandbox. Any developer, institution, or university can deploy a real contract on Canton right now without going through DevNet onboarding. That is a new entry point into the Canton ecosystem that does not currently exist anywhere else.

The longer-term piece that I think maps directly to conversations you're having with institutional partners: Ginie-1 is a Canton-native open-weight LLM that runs fully air-gapped. Regulated banks and asset managers cannot route financial contract specifications through an external API provider. Ginie-1 removes that dependency permanently — self-hosted on their own infrastructure, Apache 2.0, no third-party cost, no compliance risk.

More users building on Canton → more contracts on the Global Synchronizer → stronger Burn-Mint Equilibrium → more institutions see proof-of-concept on their own workflows → ecosystem grows from both ends simultaneously.

Would value your read on whether this maps to the institutional adoption gaps you're seeing from the Canton BD side.

Hey @0xScoutr — yes, IDE extensions for VS Code, Cursor, and JetBrains are on the M3 roadmap (Week 20). Inline Daml generation, deploy from the editor, audit sidebar showing security findings in real time — the same 7-stage pipeline that runs on the web interface, directly inside the developer's environment.

The CCTools angle makes a lot of sense to us. You're building the discovery layer for the Canton community and Ginie is the tool that lets that community deploy on Canton regardless of their Daml background — plain English to a live Contract ID in 90 seconds, no Daml expertise required. Those two things fit naturally together.

Would love to explore what a longer-term CCTools × Ginie partnership looks like that makes sense for both communities.

We appreciate the feedback from @v9n @joel-da @mgaare as SIG to our PR

Ginie had already launched a private beta live version to the community and in last 48 hours we acquired 250+ users who deployed 400+ daml templates on Localnet deployed by us via our socials X account which have grown to 500+ followers.
The builders are loving to build on canton using no code AI tooling and this is the moment to bring next millions devs on Canton With Ginie

Hey All,

We opened private beta for our live version 48 hours ago. Here is what happened:

Acquired 500+ X followers. 250 users onboarded to canton.ginie.xyz. 470+ contracts deployed on LocalNet hosted on cloud by our team— verifiable at canton.ginie.xyz/explorer.

Developers are showing up because deploying a Canton smart contract in plain English in under 90 seconds is something they actually want to do and that's the moment where they got the right and most effective dev tooling for DAML.

The EVI SDK we built for EVM chains hit 47,000 weekly NPM downloads solving the same problem on Ethereum. We came to Canton because the same demand exists here and nobody was closing the Daml gap. The numbers from the last 48 hours confirm that and even we are about to see more activities and positive responses from the community in the coming time as we brings it more to the eyes of users. Glad to build on Canton.

Comment thread proposals/ginie.md
## Abstract

We kept watching EVM developers and Rust builders look at Canton, understand why it was the right infrastructure for what they wanted to build, and then leave the moment they saw Daml. Nobody was solving that specific problem: getting someone who already knows web3 through the door without months of training. That is what Ginie does.

I’d suggest adding a sentence that explicitly ties this to the Dev Fund, e.g. that Ginie converts awareness created by other funded projects (CCTools etc.) into active Canton builders by removing the Daml learning cliff.
