This PR fixes relevant errors reported by ShellCheck in
format_empty_disk.shandglim.sh. I have tested both scripts with a physical flash drive after implementing the changes.P.S.: Would you be interested in a PR that ported the scripts from Bash to Python? I find Python code easier to maintain than Bash. I can also port to a different scripting language like Tcl or Lua.
