OSX Setup
Install from web:
- Chrome
- http://justgetflux.com/
- Sublime Text 3 (with license)
- from web (cask can only install Sublime Text 2)
- Path Finder [update: not using this]
- add "popen" for opening in Path Finder from Terminal
- I'm trying out Path Finder. Will probably like it and buy.
Install from App store:
- Xcode (App Store)
Install brew: http://brew.sh/ Install cask: https://github.com/phinze/homebrew-cask
$ brew cask install alfred
- Alfred isn't finding applications installed by cask, so I may give up on using it at all. I spent awhile trying to fix this on my last machine, so I won't bother now. Probably I'm doing something stupid, though. Oh well.
Install Dropbox
- spend a frustrating hour trying to rename “Dropbox (Kaggle Core Team”) to just Dropbox
- Eventually removed everything and installed old Dropbox version 2.4.11.
$ echo "source ~/Dropbox/.bash_profile" >> ~/.bash_profile
- (I keep my .bash_profile in Dropbox)
$brew cask install iterm2
- 3-finger swipe between screens isn't working for me when iterm2 is full screen. Haven't solved that. Frustrated.
$brew cask install bettertouchtool
-
(and set up some BTT shortcuts)

System's notification center: set notifications to "Do Not Disturb" for almost all hours. I don't like notifications from the OS bothering me. This may come back to bite me if I miss something important, but I really really don't want "Find out what's new in..." notifications.
$brew tap homebrew/science
[UPDATE: Don't do the following. Installing R with brew is a big mistake. Everything breaks. Get the binaries.]
$brew install R
$brew install R
$brew cask install rstudio
