How to Load Contents in Content Type Filter #33111

Open

Description

@MariaFernandez778

Define the Problem

There could be thousands of content types so loading the full list of them in the content type filter in the new content drive may not be very performant.
Though we have a search in the content type filter, sometimes the user may not know what to search for and will rely on browsing the list.
For this browsing to be sucessful we need two things:
-To order in alphabetical order
-To load 100 items at a time and then load the next 100 as they scroll down and automatically trigger the request. Alternatively, we could load the first 200 and then show a load more or a load all link at the end of the 200.

Melissa will devise a solution for this, they may be more options out there too.

Who's Facing the Problem?

All users using the content drive.

    I would suggest using a similar filter to what we came up with for the host selector - the search is wildcarded on both sides with the shortest matches first. See: #27447

    @wezell we can do that for the search, no prob, but this issue is about browsing not searching. what happens when you don't know what to search for and you need to traverse the list of thousand of content items in order to browse and find the one you need? how do we load all those items in the list in a performant way?

    We will have to paginate that list for sure. I was just suggesting the filter and sort algo for content types filtering

    Design Solution:

    • We will load 100 items at a time, and have the same behavior as this ticket Change sorting criteria used in the site selector #27447

    • Both the Base Type and Content Type menus will have a fixed height of 450px.

    • At the end of the list, show this message: Only the first 100 items are displayed. Use the search box to find others.
