This sentence is grammatically confusing...
The general workaround is to use a gateway and send only to devices non-local network address ranges.
Are you saying you can't send packets to an IP address in the same network subnet as your own IP address?

A lot of people hit this so a front and center warning with suggested workaround would seem appropriate.
