@data-henrik theses environment variables are defined to ease the path while moving from a Continuous Delivery classic pipeline to a Continuous Delivery tekton pipeline.
For instance, the scripts involved in either a classic or tekton pipeline for the secure-kube-toolchain template - may use this environment variables just like in https://github.com/open-toolchain/commons/blob/master/scripts/check_and_deploy_kubectl.sh#L84
Eventually an additional description in the environment variables definition to indicate this kind of backward compattiblity would be useful
