Small tweaks to the text on the payment page

UPDATE: I left a comment below with what I think is a better approach.

1. The dropdown on the payment page says "Currency" and "select currency" and "select a currency", but I think it should probably say "select a payment method", since technically a credit card is not a currency.

2. Also this point is very small, but I recommend putting the credit card as the first option, since most folks will be selecting that one. It will make it slightly easier for them to parse the page that way.

I showed this page to my husband Sebastian, who used to work at Stripe and is a big payments nerd. He made the following suggestion for how to structure the page, which I thought was nice:

We could follow a similar pattern as what they have for Stripe Checkout:

I tried my hand in Figma to make a rough mockup how it could be adapted for our context:

I think this is significantly clearer and lower friction than the dropdown design we currently have.

Details:

• Credit Card is selected by default, since most people will use that as their payment method

• When Credit Card is selected, the user does not have to also choose a “chain”, since there is no concept of “chain” when dealing with CCs

• The “Go to pay” button is right below the Payment Method selector, so that it’s easier to find

• When ETH or USDC are selected, it shows the same screen/form that is currently implemented, which seems to work pretty well (though admittedly I haven’t tested actually paying with crypto)

Thanks for the feedback.

On items 1), 2), and 4) — positioning Credit Cards first and pre-selected by default — this approach isn’t aligned with our product strategy. We intentionally want to highlight that credit cards come with higher fees, and that crypto offers a better alternative. Our goal is to measure how many people in frontier tech and crypto are willing to shift their purchasing habits to save money, if offered the option. We recognize this adds a bit of friction to the checkout flow, but it’s a deliberate tradeoff for the sake of our broader mission.

As for item 3), we agree it could be a meaningful improvement. The payment UI is due for a refresh, but at the moment our team is focused on shipping group-related features, so our bandwidth is still a bit constrained. And I do apologize about that
