This PR applies the work that has been discussed and reviewed in the above thread, and in these 2 PRs:
There are some followup issue(s) that will be created to make improvements to the localization logic (see #1009 review discussion). There will also be some commits on
mainto trigger translation issues for examples that need more than the localization strings alone for translation.
