State of the gemmini branch

Hi,

I'd like to apply CoSA to the Gemmini architecture and noticed the gemmini branch in the repository. I'm a bit confused about its current state and intended purpose. Was this branch used to evaluate CoSA on Gemmini? Also, which of the architecture YAML files should be considered the "correct" or up-to-date one for Gemmini?

Hi, thanks for your interest! I don't remember for certain, but I believe you are correct that this branch was used to evaluate CoSA on Gemmini. We used this branch for DOSA, which used CoSA for Gemmini. Note that the generated mappings were evaluated using Timeloop, not actually run on Gemmini. For DOSA, we added another code generation step that enabled the mappings to actually run on Gemmini (via FireSim). You can find the flow for that somewhere here, but it is rather hacky.

As for which YAML is up-to-date, I believe arch.yaml is the most up-to-date, as it matches the one we placed in the Gemmini repo later.
