Summary

ADP registers as a remote agent and emits dogstatsd.udp_packets_bytes and dogstatsd.uds_packets_bytes tagged with remote_agent=<display_name> via the Remote Agent Registry. Without aggregate_tags, COAT strips all tags and makes these metrics indistinguishable from the core agent's own dogstatsd metrics. This adds aggregate_tags: [remote_agent] to those two metrics in the default COAT profile, and adds remote_agent=agent as a static label to both counters in the dogstatsd listeners (following the same pattern as logs.encoded_bytes_sent) so that COAT's aggregate_tags filter finds the tag present on core Agent timeseries rather than dropping them.

Test plan

  • dda inv test --targets=./comp/core/agenttelemetry/... — passes
  • Verify COAT dashboard shows remote_agent dimension on dogstatsd.udp_packets_bytes / dogstatsd.uds_packets_bytes after ADP is deployed with a real APP_FULL_NAME build var

Explanation

Confidence level: 90.00%
Effect size tolerance: |Δ mean %| ≥ 5.00%

Performance changes are noted in the perf column of each table:

  • ✅ = significantly better comparison variant performance
  • ❌ = significantly worse comparison variant performance
  • ➖ = no significant change in performance

A regression test is an A/B test of target performance in a repeatable rig, where "performance" is measured as "comparison variant minus baseline variant" for an optimization goal (e.g., ingress throughput). Due to intrinsic variability in measuring that goal, we can only estimate its mean value for each experiment; we report uncertainty in that value as a 90.00% confidence interval denoted "Δ mean % CI".

For each experiment, we decide whether a change in performance is a "regression" -- a change worth investigating further -- if all of the following criteria are true:

  1. Its estimated |Δ mean %| ≥ 5.00%, indicating the change is big enough to merit a closer look.

  2. Its 90.00% confidence interval "Δ mean % CI" does not contain zero, indicating that if our statistical model is accurate, there is at least a 90.00% chance there is a difference in performance between baseline and comparison variants.

  3. Its configuration does not mark it "erratic".

…es metrics in COAT

ADP emits dogstatsd.udp_packets_bytes and dogstatsd.uds_packets_bytes as a
remote agent, tagging them with remote_agent=<display_name>. Without
aggregate_tags, COAT strips all tags and the two sources become
indistinguishable. Preserving the tag lets dashboards and queries filter by
source.

Add remote_agent label to dogstatsd.udp_packets_bytes and
dogstatsd.uds_packets_bytes following the same pattern as
logs.encoded_bytes_sent. Defaults to "agent" for the core Agent.
This ensures the COAT aggregate_tags filter finds the tag present
rather than dropping core Agent timeseries.

I tested this out locally and observed that the telemetry, when the Agent was publishing it, ended up with remote_agent=agent and, when ADP was, remote_agent=agent-data-plane.

…entity functions

setAgentIdentity was unused (no caller). The value is always "agent" for
the core Agent, so inline it directly.
