Prometheans, more casually referred to as 'slime people' by some are the result of unexpected xenobiological research results involving the nullspace discovered species of Formare Limus, also more casually referred to as 'slimes'. While showing sapient and above intelligence despite their single-cell nature, it remains unseen what mental and physical limits they can adapt to.

Biology

Prometheans hold a robust single-cell form made up of a membrane, durable cytoplasm, nucleus along with many other quasi-organs that regulate organic functions. The membrane the houses and holds the chosen shape of a Promethean acts as an omni-sensory organ that can accurately hear, see, feel and taste. Thus leaving the species without an olfactory sense. Yet however more fascinating is the cytoplasm that makes up the majority of their bodies acting as both neurological tissue and sensory distribution. While this leaves the species acutely sensitive to discomfort and temperature extremes, their intelligence threshold is theorized to match most large computational machines.

History

As a species, Prometheans are less than a decade old and are not seen outside of the Northern Light, let alone outside Nanotrasen 'employment'. While research into the biological and medical applications of Formare Limus is still ongoing, observations had been made by Nanotrasen Xenobiological scientists that one variable group of slimes had begun to adapt to what they had been fed. Taking on both shape and behaviors of the flash-cloned macaques often used as a food source for the carnivorous aliens. Attempting to see if this pattern repeated the group's mitosis-based offspring was given a diet of vat-cloned human organs. The result after several generations was infact vaguely human-alike xenoslimes. 'First contact' of a sorts was made in short order and crude communication established. Testing and stimuli showed that this sub-species of Formare Limus, now dubbed as Prometheans held sapient, if not greater intelligence and the capacity to learn both social and technical skills quickly. In both the interest of research and to keep these subjects occupied, Nanotrasen has 'employed' their Promethean creations in both their medical and R&D departments to both see how they preform and cover for any staffing shortages.

Current Day

Prometheans make up a fraction of a fraction of the Northern Light crew with their mitosis under heavy supervision, and for the moment suspended, only time will tell what place they will play in the greater Galaxy outside of the Northern Light.
