The previous handgonne had aspects of an actual handgonne (description, some of the stats) and aspects of an arquebus (icon, some of the other stats). Both the handgonne and arquebus were used during the middle ages, and having an armor piercing firearm to complement the shotgun-like handgonne is both realistic and hopefully fun.
This was mostly motivated by the limited options to penetrate armor when using Medieval Overhaul with Combat Extended, so I'll update the MO patch in CE if/when this gets included.
Apologies if you'd rather not have random pull requests. Since this is ofc your project to maintain, I won't mind if you want to push back on changes. Thanks for keeping some of my favorite mods up to date!
