Technical Requirements

Display of vital data on the patient box

The visualization of vital data must be displayed on the display directly at the patient's bed. The patient box should display the vital data over the course of the past 8-12 hours. The patient box must be reset to standard values for new patients. The users on site must be able to configure the units.

Display of vital data on the mobile/terminal device

The visualization of vital data must be displayed on mobile devices. The mobile/terminal device should display all vital signs of all patient displays/patient boxes. This remote monitoring must be possible at a distance of at least 50 meters. Data transmission might be disrupted by military radio scramblers.

Monitoring and alarm signal

Optical and acoustical alarms must be displayed and sound at the patient's bed when critical values of vital data are reached. Users must be able to set these threshold values for the alarm individually. Volume levels should also be adjustable. An alarm signal must be synchronous on the mobile devices. Resetting the alarm should only be possible at the patient box and after the patient has been examined.

As the display must be suitable for operating procedures, it's important that it is waterproof and operable while wearing gloves. This leaves us with the following questions:

  • Which resistive displays exist for medical application and a RasPi that are at least 7" or 10" in size?
  • Are there alternatives that would allow us to make a display resistive? For example sheeting or film?
