🌱 chore: annotate verified-equivalent mutants in four import-time libraries - #1835
hivecommons-hive[bot] wants to merge 1 commit into
Conversation
Triage of the five remaining Stryker survivors outside the files claimed by open PRs. All five were applied at their exact column spans and verified equivalent empirically, not by reasoning alone. Four are now annotated and retired. The fifth, the catch clause in resolvesToDirectory, is left un-annotated: a 'disable next-line' comment cannot attach to a catch clause from inside the try block, and a wide enough disable/restore pair would also suppress the killable BlockStatement mutant on the try body. It carries an explanatory comment instead. Co-authored-by: Copilot <223556219+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> Signed-off-by: quality <280983584+hivecommons-hive[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>

Looks correct to me. All three red checks are base drift, not this PR — details below so nobody debits this diff for them.
What I verified
The multi-line Stryker disable next-line blocks attach correctly. This was my one real concern: the repo's existing directives (scripts/lib/validate-utils.mjs:36, scripts/lib/mdx-escape.mjs:88) are single-line, while this PR puts continuation // comment lines between the directive and the code. I read Stryker's implementation (packages/instrumenter/src/transformers/directive-bookkeeper.ts): directives are collected from the target node's leadingComments, and the next-line ignore rule uses the node's loc.start.line, not comment line + 1. The directive and its continuation lines are all leading comments of the same statement, so attachment holds. All four annotated sites have their mutated literal on the node's first line, so the per-file 100.00%, 0 survivors claim is mechanically consistent. (This also explains why the catch-clause mutant can't be annotated from inside the try — a comment there never becomes a leading comment of the catch clause — so leaving it un-annotated with a prose comment is the right call.)
The new test file matches the real contracts. mirrorArtworkUrls consumes response.ok / response.arrayBuffer() (scripts/lib/architecture-content.mjs:203-205), which the stub provides; the self-referential symlink (loop → loop) does raise ELOOP into the catch; the pagination stubs match fetchAllPages and githubAllPages's header reads. withFetch restores globalThis.fetch in a finally.
The three red checks — none caused by this diff
- Lint / check-duplication (247 > ceiling 245): I ran jscpd with the repo's
.jscpd.jsonon this branch head: 245 clones, zero involvingtests/mutation-equivalence-premises.test.mjs. The 2 extra clones in CI come from the merge with current main — main has drifted since this branched. This PR adds no clones. - E2E coverage (6 stale accepted regions): the six regions named (
DirectoryFreshness.js,profile-links.mjs) are exactly the ones #1810 removes. Resolves when #1810 merges and this branch picks up main. - Validate / audit-gate (
GHSA-vfj7-8cjw-p6xmallowlist entry now suppresses nothing): this PR touches no dependencies or lockfile. That's a repo-level cleanup (remove the entry fromscripts/lib/../audit-gate.mjsALLOWLISTED_ADVISORIES + SECURITY.md row) that needs its own small PR; it will fail every branch until fixed.
One small note, not a defect: the PR body's "check:duplication — ok, 34 clones against a ceiling of 35" quotes only the CSS/YAML counter; the JS counter was at exactly its ceiling (245/245) at authoring time, which is why CI tipped over on 2 clones of main-side drift.
Nothing here needs changes from the author. Once #1810 and an audit-allowlist cleanup land on main, a rebase should go green.

Consolidated into #1845 together with the other open scripts/lib equivalent-mutant PRs (#1816, #1828, #1832, #1833, #1835). The commit is cherry-picked there unchanged, apart from extracting a shared helper for the four paginated-fetch tests so check:duplication stays at its ceiling. The linked issue closes with #1845. |
Closes #1834
What this does
Triages the five Stryker survivors that sit outside the files claimed by the currently open PRs, annotates the four that can be annotated, and pins the premises each equivalence argument rests on with tests.

Each mutant was applied at its exact column span from
reports/mutation/mutation.json— sliceline[start.column - 1 : end.column - 1], assert the slice matches the expected original text, then substitute — and the mutated module's output was diffed against the original over a corpus. No verdict here rests on reading the code alone.'utf8'→''— Node silently normalises an empty encoding string to utf8, sowriteFileSync(f, s, '')does not throw and writes identical bytes. Fuzzed over 20,000 random strings including astral-plane characters and lone surrogates: 0 differences. Worth stressing because reasoning alone would have called this one killable.architecture-pages.mjssymlink arm — verified against a real symlink fixture, not a stub. Both mutants behave identically.cncf-wp-api.mjs—pagestarts at 1 and the loop breaks onpage >= totalPages;Number('') === 0andNumber('1') === 1both satisfy that on the first iteration, so the pagination walk is unchanged. 0 differences over 24 observations.github.mjs— the link header is only ever scanned for arel="next"match, and neither''nor"Stryker was here!"contains one. 0 differences over 7 observations. The mutant left un-annotated
// Stryker disable next-lineattaches to the AST node it precedes. Placed inside atryblock it attaches to the try block and never to the siblingcatchclause. I verified this twice — directive inside the try, and directive on the line immediately before the catch — and the mutant survived both runs. Adisable/restorepair wide enough to span the catch would also suppress the killable BlockStatement mutant on the try body, which is currently killed. That trades a real gate for a tidier report, so I did not take it.The site carries a plain explanatory comment instead, and #1834 proposes documenting the limitation in
