User info_Configuring Scambuster

This page details how to configure Scambuster. To open the Scambuster menu, you can access it through the Interface/Addons menu, or by typing either of the following commands into your chat window:

  • /sc
  • /scambuster

The config menu contains tooltips for each option, but for completeness we'll go through the options here.

Scanning

opts1

The scanning menu can be used to control in what ways Scambuster runs scans on players you interact with. Each can be independently enabled/disabled.

To retain fps in raids, certain scan operations can be suspended when the player is in an instance group.

Report Matching

opts2

Scambuster collates data on incidents where people were scammed. If your data provider supports it, you can use this section to control what type of incidents you wish to be warned about:

  • Categories control the type of incident, e.g. trade scam, raid ninja looting, etc.
  • Severity can be one of Reformed/Probation/Scammer, in increasing severity. By default all processed cases are assigned the Scammer severity, but providers can optionally assign a probation or reformed flag on each incident.

Cutpurse prefers to match GUIDs of players, as these cannot ever result in false-positives arising from name changes. By default, the addon will match incidents where only a player's name was recorded, without a GUID. Scambuster can be configured to require a GUID is given by the Provider to match a scammer.

By default if a GUID match and a name-only match are pinged on the same player, only the GUID-matched incidents will be reported. The last option will make Scambuster display all matches in its report.

Alerts

opts3

An alert lockout can be configured during which time Scambuster will not repeat an alert for a given player, to avoid spam.

Scambuster can alert you in a number of ways:

  • if Chat panel is enabled, the addon will present a breakdown of scammer information and incidents in the chat panel to you.
  • if Group/Raid chat is enabled, the addon will send this informtation to the relevant instance group channel (and will not trigger an additional Chat panel personal alert).
  • if Audio Alert is enabled, the addon will play an audio alert that you can choose from the shared media installed on your client. Scambuster packages a few audio clips that you might find familiar if you've played any Oblivion.
